August 2006 Email Update

Dear Family & Friends:

Ever since I started working as a missionary I have developed the habit of carrying tracts in my purse and give them freely to cab drivers, vendors, beggars and anyone that comes my way unexpectedly.  I have been a missionary for 2 ½ years but have never really seen anyone come close to the kingdom as a result of my constant tract distribution until today.

I went to the beauty salon today and the manager said, “You are a Christian right?”  I said, “Yes.”  She continued, “You gave me a something to read the last time you came here and I read it”.  She then started telling me her life story.

She talked about her marriage and divorce, her son, how she ended up having the beauty salon where it is right now and how she was previously invited to a platicas (Bible study).  She went twice but then really got busy and has not gone again.  She firmly said she is Catholic and does not want to change her religion but respects people of other religions.  As I was listening to all this, I was in awe that this woman is really on her spiritual journey and I had no idea that she would read the literature I gave her and that she would remember me.

I shared with her how in John 3:16 God loves us so much that He gave His only Son to die for us.  I shared with her also that is has nothing to do with religion but that it is what we do with the Son of God.  I shared with her I John 5:11.12 “that those who have the Son have life but those who don’t have the Son do not have life.  I told her where my church is and that she is welcome to attend all our services and that I lead a ladies platicas every  Thursday evening from 6-7:30 pm and that she is more than welcome to come.  I forgot to ask this woman’s name but she surely had an impact on my day.

I praise the Lord for the many opportunities He gives me here to sow seeds.  You bet I will come regularly to this beauty salon.

As always, thank you for your love, prayers and support.
