December 2007 E-Update

Angie Velasco

“Never a dull moment!” --- This is how I would describe the year 2007.

Below is a monthly summary of the many exciting ways I saw God work in my life this year.

January – After 2 months of being in Chicago for medical and dental treatment I was finally given a medical clearance to travel.  Praise the Lord (PTL) for my good doctors and dentists in the Chicagoland area!

February – I flew to Mexico on February 3rd and jumped right in helping with the preparations for our Children’s outreach called Festival de Alegria on February 10.  We had about 500 children come to the event and many children walked through the doors of our church for the first time.  PTL for the many children who heard the gospel!

March – What a privilege to be part of the citywide evangelism campaign we did in Chiapas called Festival de Vida on March 20-26!  What a joy to serve as translator for the head of the medical team during the day and counselor for new believers in the evening!  I will not forget being in the soccer stadium with about 45,000 people hearing the gospel and witnessing many people come forward to receive Christ.  PTL for the freedom we have to preach the gospel in Mexico!

April – What a great reunion I had with our pastors and missionaries serving in Sonora during our annual Mexican Calvary Chapel conference in Aguas Calientes!  To date, I still have no medical clearance to travel to the Sonora desert so this was a real treat.

PTL for enabling our Sonoran pastors and missionaries to come to Aguas Calientes!

MaySemilla de Mostaza (Mustard Seed) Cuernavaca (my local church in Mexico) baptized about 15-20 people.  What a testimony to God’s grace, mercy and power to change lives!  Praise His name!

June – I closed the ministry season (September 06 – June 07) with a women’s dinner.  One gal had tears in her eyes when she found out we would have a summer break for the weekly Bible studies.  The Thursday Bible studies meant so much to her and had been the highlight of her week.  I was so moved I decided to host a monthly evangelistic breakfast during the summer to stay in touch with all of the ladies.  This gal invited 10 women to the last breakfast I hosted (6 came), and invited 4 women (2 came) for the beginning of the ministry season (September 07- June 08).  PTL for using the weekly Bible studies to encourage and challenge the women to walk seriously with the Lord!

July – I had flooding in my apartment!  For 3 weeks I was waking up with water in my living room and kitchen.  The day I was moving the Lord gave me the opportunity to share the gospel with one of the guys helping me move.  I had to ask for forgiveness from the Lord for having a bad attitude the last few weeks, not realizing that even the flooding in my apartment could be used for His glory!  PTL for His grace and patience with us!

August – What a privilege to travel to Apaxtla, Guerrero to teach the ladies there on “How to have an Effective Prayer Life”!  I will not forget seeing the pigs, dogs, cows, chicken, deer, horses and ducks crossing the street on the drive from Apaxtla to the next big town, Teloloapan.  PTL for giving me safety on the road!

September – How can I forget the most memorable birthday party ever, where I had to dip my face in my own birthday cake!  PTL for all the love shown to me by my Christian and non-Christian friends in Cuernavaca!

October – Once again, the Mexican doctors did not know what medical condition I had and I found myself flying into Chicago at the exact same date I flew in last year.  PTL it was only a minor infection and my Chicago doctors were able to quickly diagnose the problem!

November – What a treat to celebrate an unexpected Thanksgiving with my church family in Chicago!  PTL for giving me another unplanned opportunity to renew ties with my home church in Chicago: the Chicago International Evangelical Free church!

December – A month with my church family in Vancouver, WA --- Crossroads Community Church, to renew ties with many faithful people praying, serving and supporting me so that I can continue the work the Lord has called me to do in Mexico.

PTL for the body of Christ partnering with one another to carry on the Great Commission!

Like I said, “never a dull moment!”  Would you hang in there with me for the long run?

Thank you.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

P.S.  Thank you to all of you who have said, “Yes, I will continue to support Angie Velasco for the long run”.   To date, I have 44% of my monthly support raised.  Crossroads Community Church will not let me go back to Mexico unless I have $1500 per month pledged in monthly, quarterly or yearly support.  If you have not yet done so and would like to do so, please notify Anne Tuttle at (360)-256-9711 or by email at annet@crossroadschurch.net if you are able to continue supporting me financially.  Thank you.
