It was on March 21 in Tuxtla Gutierrez , Chiapas .  During the team dinner Mike McIntosh, senior pastor of Horizon Christian Fellowship mentioned to us, “none of us go back the same after the Festival de Vida”.  His words stuck in my mind wondering how God would use the week in Chiapas to change my life.  I had no clue until these last few weeks.  Let me tell you what is going on.

While serving as an interpreter for the medical team I had the opportunity to visit many towns outside Tuxtla where we held medical clinics. One of the towns was San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. I had visited San Cristobal de las Casas earlier that week as a tourist.  I arrived a day and a half ahead of the team from Cuernavaca because of some confusion on the dates we needed to be there.  I had the opportunity to visit the central town and noticed immediately the many indigenous groups selling their crafts.  I remember seeing young girls 14-16 years of age wearing their colorful outfits and carrying babies on their backs.  I was so moved by how young these girls are and struggling to make a living not just for themselves but for their babies as well.  I thought to myself, “Someone needs to tell them about Jesus”.  I noticed all the big Catholic churches in the area and did not see any evidence of evangelical Christian presence.  Later that week during the medical clinic, I found out there is a Presbyterian church outside the town square.

I have been back to Cuernavaca from Tuxtla for five weeks now but the memory of the faces of those indigenous girls keeps coming back to my mind.  I started praying about the possibility of helping plant a church in San Cristobal de las Casas and to date have started looking for possible team mates.

Would you pray daily for:

  1. God to confirm in my heart and in the leadership here that this is where He is leading me.
  2. The Lord to bring together a team with the same heart and vision.
  3. The Lord to provide a place we can use to start church planting activities.
  4. Agood closing here in Cuernavaca and smooth transition to Chiapas .
  5. he Lord to prepare hearts responsive to the gospel in San Cristobal de las Casas , Chiapas

I often encourage people to take mission trips because I know no one comes back the same after any Festival de Vida or after any mission trip.  Who would have known that He would touch my heart for these indigenous girls?

Thank you for your partnership.
