November 2005 Email Update

Dear Friends:

When November comes around at home we often think of Thanksgiving and the wonderful times we share with family and friends.  However, this is not true in Mexico.

When November comes around here, the big thing is Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrated on November 2.  Families prepare the favorite food and drink of the dead family member on November 1 and put them on the tombs of the dead on November 2.  They believe that the spirits of the dead are floating in the air and will need the food and drink for their journey.  There is a special bread called Pan de Muerto (bread of the dead) which is prepared only during the weeks before this national holiday.

As Christians we don't really believe the spirit of the dead people are floating in the air and need food and drink.  Our response?  Todos Vivos!  (All are Alive, based on Eph. 2:4-6 once we were dead but now alive).

Semilla de Mostaza Cuernavaca celebrated Todos Vivos.  We celebrated life with balloons, candies, fun, film and different kinds of games geared mainly as an evangelistic event for the kids in our neighborhood.

Will you ask God to bless our small effort to impact this culture by celebrating life?

Thank you.
