September 2008 E-Update

The month of August flew!  The first week of August I completed four weeks of physical therapy in Chicago to relieve my headaches.  What a relief to have a week without headaches!  I praise God for His faithfulness in providing everything I needed during my stay in Chicago --- housing, car, doctors, physical therapists, medicines and most of all a good church in Chicago.

On August 10, I had the privilege to attend a Mexican wedding.  One of the gals who faithfully attends my Philippians Bible study in Cuernavaca has a daughter that lives in Palatine, IL (about 38 miles NW of Chicago).  Her granddaughter exchanged vows with another Mexican.  Initially, I was very hesitant to attend thinking I would feel alone in the midst of a big crowd.  To my surprise, I was treated royally and was given a seat at the table of the daughter’s family.  The fact that I speak Spanish instantly gave me open doors to connect with the family and their Hispanic friends in Chicago.  Praise the Lord (PTL) for this connection!  The daughter attends Willow Creek Community Church and her husband is being discipled by the pastor that started Semilla de Mostaza --- my church in Cuernavaca.  What a small world!

On August 11, I flew to Portland, OR to hold a garage sale of all my earthly belongings that have been sitting in different attics and garages of friends for three and a half years.

I had the garage sale on August 12 and 13 and to my great surprise, so many Mexicans came to my garage sale! The Lord gave me many opportunities to hand out Spanish gospel tracts and invite them to the Luis Palau Crusade in Portland on August 22 and 23.  I met two families who have relatives in Cuernavaca.  Again, what a small world!  Praise God for the opportunity to serve as a counselor during the Luis Palau Crusade!

Again, I thank God for His faithfulness in providing everything I needed to get the garage sale done --- tickets to fly to Portland from Chicago, a friend’s garage to hold the event, friends who brought my stuff to the site, ready made price tags, friends who gave me tips on how to do a garage sale, friends who helped put up garage sale signs in the neighborhood and friends who actually helped me on the 2-day garage sale.  What a faithful God we serve!  I praise His name and His provision of a great body of believers surrounding me wherever I am --- Cuernavaca, Chicago, Portland or Vancouver, WA.

The third week of August was spent meeting with faithful ministry partners and counseling potential missionaries.  I thank God for providing me many faithful supporters.  I would not be able to continue working as a missionary without these faithful donors.

On August 25th, I flew to Mexico City and took a two hour bus ride south to Cuernavaca (City), Morelos (State).  I was welcomed warmly by the ladies in my Bible study groups.

I was given flowers, bear hugs and was invited to have meals in their homes.  Once again, I see God’s faithfulness --- in helping these ladies continue in the disciplines of the faith producing growth and changes in their lives, despite my absence.  PTL for giving me many open doors of service here in Cuernavaca.  Pray for me to press on.  Thank you!
